The Excité Practice
Measurement-led systems engineering, applied to whatever signal you bring. Three offerings — consulting, custom speaker design, and display & imaging systems work — built around a single approach: characterize the physics, model the non-linearity, design the pipeline, prove it works.
For clients with hard problems at the boundary between signal and perception.
One approach. Three kinds of work
The Practice is the outside work I take on alongside the Excité loudspeaker program. The approach is the same as the one that built the lasers in HoloLens 2, the AR display pipeline at Meta, and the loudspeaker correction architecture Excité is built around: characterize the physics, model the non-linearity, measure what matters, correct in real time with hardware proportionate to the problem.
Display, audio, and sensors all reduce to perceptual signal chains. The transducers differ; the engineering question does not. If you have a hard systems-engineering problem at that boundary — in cinema acoustics, on a display pipeline, in a sensor stack, or in something none of those describe — we should talk.
Three engagements, one methodology
Each offering is led personally. There is no team to delegate to; depth is the entire point.
- Cinema and concert-hall sound & image quality
- Custom enclosure & driver matching for specific rooms
- Distributed array systems for performance venues
- Reference monitoring for studio applications
- End-to-end measurement & commissioning
- Display pipeline architecture & validation
- Image-quality measurement & metrology
- Color science · tone- and gamut-mapping design
- Psychophysics-driven low-power algorithms
- FPGA & ASIC co-design for image-quality silicon
Bring the problem. We'll bring the rigour.
Start with a conversation
Most engagements begin with a short call: what problem you are trying to solve, what you have already tried, and where the constraints actually are. We figure out together whether the Practice is a fit before either of us commits to anything.
If we go forward, the work is led personally; depth is the entire point. Engagements range from short architecture reviews and second-opinion audits through to multi-month systems builds.
